Harcourt 2020
28 Apr 10
For over a year, a the Harcourt Community has been invited to be involved with and help answer the question what will happen to Harcourt after the freeway bypasses us. A number of meetings have been held and members of groups, organisations, businesses and community members, along with Council Representatives have discussed concepts. Through the auspices of Council, funding has been received to do a concept plan for the centre of town.
There was be an open day at the Leisure Centre on the 12th of October to put forward your ideas and and see some of the concept plans that have been made available for comment.
There was a good turn out on the day and a lot of ideas were put forward for what we might be able to do. The information received wiill be compiled and and we will hope to get the information up here on the website for others to view and make further comment on.
A consultant has been engaged by Council and is using the information that the Committee have been collecting to date.
A report was developed and presented to Mt Alexander Council. Subsequently the Harcourt 2020 disbanded in favour of the Council Advisory/Reference Group 'Harcourt After the Bypass' that meets 4 times a year, 2 meeting s being closed and 2 being open to the public.
Early in 2010, Council released an Aquatic Study, which recommended a closure of the Harcourt Outdoor Swimming Pool. This moved the members of the Harcourt Community to reform Harcourt 2020 to drive the community's wants and needs for Harcour, with the initial goal to save the pool, and the longterm goal of improvingthe economic development and livability of the Harcourt Valley.
